Hembury Castle – British Sheepskin

£139.00

Thick black (or as near as nature will allow) fur on a strong hide. With longer than average hair and small flecks of white on the flank. This is a sheepskin that beckons for a snuggle. Use on the floor if you must, but easily good enough for the armchair in the summer house (or hillfort, depending on your social status and time period).

Description

Hembury – literally ‘high fort’

Hembury woods are steep down from the hill fort to the river Dart, so steep that an invader would be fatigued by the time they reached the top.

The ‘Castle’ has evolved over time and earlier earth works were incorporated into following constructions (as one would, it’s a very long way up hill to carry anything).

The first record of Hembury Castle is made in records at nearby Buckfast Abbey, where a fort is named high burh – literally ‘high fort’.

So, be warned. Bring your walking boots and picnic, shove an old sheepskin in the car for the dog, and head for the top. You’ll be glad when you make it.
