Burrator – British Sheepskin

£159.00

Burrator is a large bear-like sheepskin with a whole lot of VOLUME. It’s big. Waaay bigger than its 92×54 cm hide footprint would suggest. This volume of fur comes from the length and density of the fleece – it’s like your favourite shaggy dog but easier to housetrain.

This is camper van stuff. Chuck it no your bed for the ultimate #VanLife accessory.

The fur spreads outwards (and upwards) by at least 6 cm in all directions (including upwards – think twice before putting this one on the floor, it won’t go down well in heavy traffic areas).

Size of hide: 89x60x6.5 (nominally 6.5 cm high, hair actually extends 7 – 9 cm beyond hide in places!)

Description

Burrator reservoir in Yelverton is named after the Burra Tor, a large granite rock which erupts out of a field on the southern edge of the large dam. The reservoir is held by two dams, one for the River Meavy and the other dam holds back water from Sheepstor Brook.

There was a railway opened here just to bring the workers to build the two dams, the timetable was scheduled around the working day. Eventually this stop would be called Sheepstor Halt.

Burrator Reservoir, supplying Plymouth with water since 1898 –
“In 1923 it was decided to enlarge the capacity from 668 million gallons to 1,026 million. This was achieved by raising the height of both dams by 10 feet”
