Privacy Policy

We are Dartmoor Sheepskins (dartmoorsheepskins.co.uk) and this is how we collect, store, and share, your data.

(tldr: we strive to collect as little data as possible, to hold it only for as long as we need to, and not to share it thoughtlessly)

What data are we talking about?

Cookies.

You can browse our website, dartmoorsheepskins.co.uk, without sharing your personal information. We will try and place Cookies on your browser to help reduce page loading times, and so that we can measure traffic to the website and use marketing tools. We do not use Cookies to personalise your experience on this website, neither do we track your usage live, nor serve you adverts when you use other websites. Our Cookies will be used to store things like the contents of your Basket, and to speed up your experience of the website by loading some content just once, rather than each time you visit a particular page. We share data collected from these Cookies with specific marketing companies who are helping us grow our website. These uses of data are detailed below, along with the other ways we use, store and share your data.

Mailing list.

When you join our mailing list you are subject to MailChimp’s policies, which can be found here. You may notice that we ask only your name and email address, but you may have already signed up to other MailChimp managed subscriptions with more data than this – MailChimp will use your data across all your to better serve you relevant adverts and mailshots, and to let us know how to improve our newsletter open rate and sales performance.

Placing and order.

When you place an order, you tell us where you live so that we can post your goods to you. When you order from dartmoorsheepskins.co.uk we receive, your name, your address, and the list of contents of your basket. After 12 months we anonymise the personal data from each order. This means we do not store personal data long term. Your payment processor, and ours, will store your name and order value, your order number, and purchases, for much longer than this.

Making and using an Account with dartmoorsheepskins.co.uk.

You can save your details in an account to make the checkout process quick and easy next time. When you make an account, we store your name, address, and optionally telephone number and use these to serve you as an online shop. We will share this information with SagePay and/or PayPal to verify that you are a real person using your own card. When our payment processor takes your details, they encrypt your personal data, making it useless to anyone else, including us. SagePay and PayPal, our payment processors, can save your card details in an encrypted form for use on other websites that use their system, making forms easier to fill in. Here is the SagePay Privacy Policy. Here is the PayPal Privacy Policy. We also share marketing data with MailChimp(1) and Google Analytics(2), whose privacy policies can be found here (1) and here (2). We share data with MailChimp to better direct our emails, to send only those bits of information you might want to receive, rather than useless spam that is of no interest to you. This data sharing might inform an automatic process that assumes you like sheepskins if you bought a sheepskin from us, for example. It might then place you onto the subscription that focuses on sheepskins, should you subscribe to our MailChimp mailing list. Any emails we send out with discounts for sheepskins would arrive in your inbox (you can unsubscribe from our mailing list here). MailChimp will use your responses to our newsletters in combination with your responses to other newsletter subscriptions, and in response to your browsing and purchasing habits on other websites that use the MailChimp system.

Credit Cards.

Even though we don’t see your credit card details, we still encrypt the connection between our servers and your computer or phone. You can check our security certificate (in the top left corner of your browser) it looks like a little padlock and indicates that our site is secure for taking payments. You can click on the padlock symbol and see more about our security and the cookies we use.

We don’t have a physical shop and our business is predominantly carried out on the web. However, our business office is: 4 Weston Tree Cottages, Berry Pomeroy, Devon, UK. You can contact us here. In some instances, we take credit or debit card payments over the phone. In these cases, you will need to have supplied us with your telephone number and your implicit consent to us using it. We do allow you to leave a phone number when placing an order, but you can leave it blank. We won’t store your phone number without permission, nor will we share it unless you tell us to. Where payments are made over the phone, your details will be for a one-time use and Dartmoor Sheepskins will make no record of your card details, even if you ask us to. The transaction will be carried out via the encrypted SagePay portal and you will need the usual numbers associated with your card plus: your house number and post code. These details are an additional fraud check and can speed up payments, we don’t store these details.

It goes without saying that we will share any data we hold if legally compelled to do so.

We use the information you provide us with to serve you as a customer, to improve as an online shop and to comply with the law. The overriding principal of Dartmoor Sheepskins is to preserve your privacy by not collecting it where possible, keeping it for a limited period, and sharing it only when it can help with very few trusted service providers.

Whilst we’ve done our best, reality means we: collect some data, hold it for 12 months and share it with our bank and yours. Our mailing list is operated as a marketing tool and uses data collected and shared with Mailchimp.
